Limiting outages with vegetation management

Keeping problem vegetation properly managed along overhead power lines is a key component in delivering safe, reliable electric service. Planning is now underway for work that will be done in 2017.

ECE’s professional forestry team has designed a routine re-clearing program using “integrated vegetation management (IVM)” principles. This management approach uses brush mowing, tree removal, pruning, application of approved herbicides and education about proper tree planting to achieve our line-clearance goals.

Maintenance is conducted at four to six-year intervals for optimum efficiency. During 2017, we plan to have tree contractors working along 16 electric circuits, which comprise over 950 miles of line throughout the system. For questions about the 2017 work areas, call ECE’s Forestry Services department, 1-866-293-9068.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding as this important work is completed.
