Cooperative Principle 3: Members’ Economic Participation
As a member and owner of ECE, you help provide the capital that allows the cooperative to deliver electricity to your home or business. We allocate margins to you, in the form of Capital Credits. Yearly, Capital Credits are refunded with board approval after money is set aside for operations and improvements. Your economic participation has contributed to the overall financial stability of your co-op.
As a cooperative, we work for you. That’s what makes us different from investor-owned businesses. They work to generate a return on investment for their stakeholders or investors. We share the profits with our members and work to meet your expectation for safe, reliable electricity and to enhance the quality of life in our communities. We’re local, we’re not-for-profit, and we exist to serve you.
