Concern for community is the heart of what we do
Community involvement is a staple of ECE, a commitment embodied in the cooperative principles that guide us. We give back and support the communities we serve through volunteerism and corporate sponsorships, scholarships and learning opportunities. Our core responsibility is to bring you safe, reliable electricity, and we do it with heart.
We visited classrooms in Mora and Milaca in May to share information about how electricity is generated and how to use it safely and wisely. Our sponsorship helped Braham eighth graders spend a day learning about renewable energy at the Audubon Center of the North Woods.
On Arbor Day, third graders at Foley Elementary learned about the importance of trees from our Forestry Services staff and arborists from Lake States Tree Service. We also used our live tabletop display to explain the dangers of climbing trees near power lines and playing on or near electrical equipment. Students were reminded to stay away from downed power lines and to “Look Up, Look Out and Live.”
Our GreenTouch project at Father Hennepin State Park in Isle brought employees, members and park staff together for a volunteer tradition that’s productive and fun. The activities help enhance the beauty and functionality of the park while emphasizing our commitment to community, one of the seven Cooperative Principles.
We offer scholarships to students who are starting their college careers and to those who are continuing their education. Working with high schools and community colleges throughout our service territory, we awarded over $60,000 this year to help students meet their educational goals.
