State appliance rebates
State appliance rebates help homeowners save more

ECE members have an extra incentive to trade in their old appliance for new energy-efficient models: They may be eligible for federally-funded rebates.

Minnesota and Wisconsin are offering the residential rebates with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The state's rebate can be combined with ECE's ENERGY STAR® rebates for greater savings on qualifying ENERGY STAR appliances. Dishwashers, clothes washers, refrigerators and freezers are eligible for rebates.

Both states have recycling requirements as part of their rebate program, and both will provide rebates on a first come, first served basis as long as the funding lasts.

Minnesota's rebate program, called Trade In and Save, will begin March 1 and end March 31, 2010. Only appliances purchased in that timeframe will be eligible for the rebate, and homeowners are limited to one rebate for a single appliance purchase (maximum of $200). In Wisconsin, the State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program (SEEARP) began January 1, 2010. Funds are expected to last six to 12 months.
