One of the privileges of being an ECE member is tapping into some unique renewable energy sources - like wind power. Thanks to a cooperative effort between Great River Energy and member distribution co-ops like ECE, we generate electricity from the wind.
Three giant wind turbines generate two megawatts of clean renewable energy at the Chander Hills Wind Farm on the windy Buffalo Ridge in southwestern Minnesota. This cooperative effort is all voluntary and has become more and more popular.
Buy wind power
You can buy wind energy in blocks of 100-kWh blocks a month at a special rate of $.51 per block above the regular rate. Purchase one block or enough blocks to meet your normal monthly electricity usage (the average home uses 1,300 kWh of electricity a month).
Wind energy has a positive impact on the environment because it reduces the consumption of non-renewable resources.
For example:
Buying two blocks of wind energy each month for one year equals driving your car 6,000 fewer miles or planting an acre of trees.

Why buy?
Purchase biomass energy and reduce the demand on our coal-fired generation plant by instead using power from a renewable energy source.
For example:
Supplying 45 average homes with biomass energy replaces the equivalent of 35 tons of coal a month.
The processed manure is much more beneficial when used as fertilizer with less odor.
How much does it cost?
You can buy a number of 100-kWh blocks, up to your minimum monthly billing. The cost is $0.51 a block above the regular rate.
