Storage Water Heating helps
a local family close the budget gap
ECE's Storage Water Heating program is helping a
family from the Brook Park area make ends meet as
they adjust to the new economy.
Brad and Kelley Rooney have cut their water heating
costs by more than half with their switch to ECE's
off-peak electric system. The rebate they received
made their new high efficiency water heater
affordable when they joined the program in 2010.
"Brad had a job in the Cities as a master
electrician, but when the economy fell apart, he was
laid off," Kelley said. "He was unemployed for 18
months. We've been looking for any way to save
money, and ECE's water heating program has really
helped."
The Rooneys have two daughters, Faith, 12, and
Grace, 8. Kelley describes their hot water use as
average for a family their size. She washes seven or
eight loads of clothes a week, runs the dishwasher
every other day, and everyone takes a daily shower.
At the special low rate of *4.2 cents per kilowatt
hour, the water heating portion of their last ECE
bill was just over $21.
