Stay Back and Stay Alive

What if a limb breaks and lands on an electric line? Does everyone know what to do - instantly? Here are some life-saving pointers to keep in the forefront of your mind - just in case.

  • If a tree branch breaks off and lands on an electric line, do not touch the branch or the wire. Call us immediately.
  • Don't cut down trees or branches near power lines.
  • Stay clear of power lines when removing anything from a tree.
  • Never let your ladder touch a power line.
  • Keep all cranes, scaffolding and high reach equipment away from power lines.

Before You Begin

First rule of thumb is to follow the 10-foot circle of safety. Keep everything you are handling (including your equipment) at least 10 feet away from power lines.

Not only is this an important safety rule, it is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation and it is a law. Violation can result in a fine.

If you cannot get your work done without getting within 10-feet of a power line, immediately contact us.

  • Examine your work site and look for lines that may be blocked by trees or buildings.
  • Make sure everyone in your crew knows about all the lines.
  • Designate a crew member as a spotter to maximize your visibility.
